Public Symposium

Asia-Pacific Coastal ecosystems in danger
-Establishing international collaboration networks toward the next decade of the JCRS-

Date and Time: 9:30-12:00, 13:00-16:30, Nov. 26 (Sun)

Venue: Multi-Purpose Digital Hall, West Bldg. 9, O-okayama campus, Tokyo Institute of Technology, 2-12-1 O-okayama, Meguro-ku, Tokyo 152-8550 Japan

Asia-Pacific region, especially Coral Triangle area and its surroundings, are known for extremely high biodiversity in their coastal ecosystems, which have various biological communities such as corals, seagrasses, mangroves and others with interconnectivities among them. However the ecosystems have been degrading due to various local and global scale anthropogenic impacts. Therefore it is an urgent need to promote sciences for the ecosystem conservation and their implementation to the society through various international and transdisciplinary collaborations. In this symposium, several active researchers in the ‘Coral Triangle’ area and others will be invited to have introduction of highlights of their recent researches on coastal ecosystem conservation with comments on the needs for international networking. Then ways to realize and promote various international and transdisciplinary collaborations as the important challenges of JCRS toward the next decade will be discussed.
